LOCKING & HOUSE
Native to Calgary, Travis Nguyen has devoted the last ten years to training, performing, and building his craft in various genres of urban dance including: House, Locking, Hip Hop, and choreography, to name a few. His hunger to try new experiences continues to push him to step outside of his comfort zone.
Throughout his dance journey, Travis has travelled to Montreal, New York, Vancouver, Toronto, Japan, and for the past three years has trained in numerous cities in South Korea, hoping to broaden his knowledge of the urban arts and further challenge his craft. Over the years, he has performed in festivals, parades and productions in and around Calgary, as well as in South Korea as part of Daegu City Lockers and the Step Dance Academy family.
Travis’ eagerness to further his career in dance and continue as an active member of the community has driven him set new challenges for himself and Travis is ready to give back to his community in hopes of inspiring others who are passionate in dance and sharing his experiences and skills obtained throughout his journey.
why do you love teaching dance?
I love seeing an individual’s growth and development and to be a part of that journey is something that motivates me to continue growing myself. I’m always aiming to remain a student of dance and am very passionate in what I do. To have an opportunity to share the valuable lessons I have learned throughout my journey with dance and my travels around the world is truly a blessing I remain grateful for.
What is a fun fact no one knows about you?
I enjoy regularly changing my surroundings and the environment that I’m in whether it be through travelling, taking new routes, or simply re-arranging furniture.
Why do you dance?
Dance has become a very important part of who I am today and the impact it has had on my life. My growth has resulted in my consistent desire to share that passion. Dance has become my voice and my form of expression, it continues to push me to further challenge my artistic creativity while travelling the world and connecting with other dancers that share the same passion. I also enjoy eating way too much and so dance is my way of staying healthy, fit and ready to eat more.
