Gomo Cabarroguis

Born in the Philippines, Gomo has lived in Calgary for many years. Gomo grew up not knowing he was already surrounded by culture until he saw breaking for the first time. It was in junior high school when he was touring with his band class and a group of breakers, that Gomo was first intrigued. They taught him his first few moves and got him to perform in front of the school for the first time. Being a shy kid, he never thought he would be dancing until this day.

why do you love teaching dance?

It keeps my craft grounded. Seeing the dancers at their early stages reminds me of why I started dancing in the first place and what the culture has done for me. I also get asked a lot of questions I don’t know which gives me the reason to go out there and seek them. It’s funny how I learn from my students as much as they learn from me.

What is a fun fact no one knows about you?

Whenever there’s too much “Hip Hop”, I like to change it up a bit. Go see a Slipknot concert or something.

Why do you dance?

It’s fun.

What is your favourite memory at pulse studios?

why do you love teaching dance?

I love teaching because it allows me to have a positive effect on someone’s life. Kids really look up to their teachers and I love being that role model that they can look up to. I also love to see the progress of my students throughout the year, and even in just one class or session. I love being able to inspire people and help them grow as dancers and as individuals.

What is a fun fact that most people do not know about you?

I was extremely shy growing up.

Why do you dance?

My art, for me, is an escape from reality, a chance to release my emotions and express how I am feeling through movement; a chance to become who ever or what ever I want to be in the moment. Each style that I do expresses a different part of my personality and who I am as a person. I dance because it allows me to express what I cannot always say in words and because it gives me the purest form of joy.

What is your favourite memory at pulse studios?

I think my favourite memory at Pulse Studios is from when it first opened. I remember taking a popping class with Lady C, we were doing an across the floor exercise. I remember being frustrating and feeling absolutely crazy and I thought to myself, “I will never be able to do this.” This is my favourite memory because it reminds me of just how far I have come on my journey as a artist. I can now pop, and I enjoy doing it. This memory reminds me that anything is possible if you are persistent with it and put your mind to it.
