Top-rock: focus on using your whole body and differences between traditional and your own top-rock style.

Bboy Moy Havikoro Crew (Houston, TX)

From middle school talent shows to traveling the world, Moy has worked hard to continually represent and inspire globally. He is known as one of the most dynamic and versatile bboys in the world.
Bboying wasn’t anything new to Moy when it captured his attention back in 1995/96. His older brother used to break in the 80s, which in this case helped him have a better understanding of the dance.
Between 1996 and 1997, Moy was breakin with a crew called “Lunatics” but later got out because everyone was a bit older and just had a different direction in mind. Shortly after, Moy and his boys started “HAVIK” which initially was an acronym for, Having A Vicious Indestructible Krew. HAVIK Bboyz were top competitors in Texas at this time. Battling almost every weekend, it seemed that the final battle was always HAVIK versus another local crew called KORO (Knights Of Rhythm Odyssey). This battle will end up going on for almost 2 to 3 years, until 1999 when both crews heard of a big event called Freestyle Session going down in Pasadena, CA. That’s when they both decided to join and take their chance by competing against some of the worlds best crews. They entered as HAVIK/KORO and that was the beginning of a whole new movement for Moy and his crew.

Interesting Facts about Bboy Moy

Rocksteady Crew awarded Moy with the Spy Award in 2010. Only handful for dancers have been presented this honour. Bboy Moy is said to have been part of the group of “FIRST” to introduce continuous airflares back in the late 90s. He had been doing 2 or so in 97, 98 but really showed consistency in 1999 (Freestyle Session 5). Moy is known for airflares and air baby combos and also made popular the “one handed air baby”. He was probably the first to hold that for long periods and transition into air moves from one hand stalls. In France, they call that move “The Moy” and Moy credits the move to Ken Swift as he’s the first Moy seen to do it. Don’t miss out on this workshop with Bboy Moy. He has been in the game for over 18 years and is consistently staying relevant even till today.

No matter how good you think you are – you always have to remain a student. This dance evolves everyday and we have to stay relevant by what’s going on today but understanding what happened yesterday. Research the traditions of the dance but be willing to build your foundation with your ideas and ideas of others.

Miles Faber grew up in Calgary Alberta, where he started Bboying (Breaking) at the age of 16. He began his professional career at the age of 19. After being named the male runner up of SYTYCDC Season 1, he has been working non-stop. Miles dances Funk, Soul, Hip Hop, and Electric Boogaloo (style of Popping.) Miles has been personally approved to teach popping by Poppin Pete, Mr. Wiggles, and Suga Pop, all of the Electric Boogaloos.

Miles has performed and danced with many artists including Shawn Desman, Ludacris, 2 Live Crew, Dirty Vegas, Black Eyed Peas, MC Hammer, and more! Miles has choreographed and been in many film and television shows including MTV’s “Turn the Beat Around”, Disney’s “Frenemies”, and “Score: A Hockey Musical” to name a few. Miles was recently choreographing and dancing with artists on the hit show “Canada’s Got Talent” as well as just finished shooting the movie “Molly Maxwell”, and the Family Channel show “The Next Step”. Recently Miles just finished choreographing a stage production of the hit show RENT, choreographed and shot a McDonald’s commercial, and won the Canadian Street Dance Championships for Popping. Miles continues to judge competitions, teach and perform around the world as well as perfecting his own craft of dance.

On the building tip, Lenny Len is back and teaching two workshops on Friday April 19th and Sunday April 21st.
His continued work as a choreographer, director, producer has taken him around the globe and most recently his work along with Hip Hop was put on the global stage at the Vancouver Olympics closing ceremonies. Lenny is one of the most sought out choreographers coming out of Toronto working with such artists as Rihanna, Ne-Yo, Melanie Fiona, Ludacris, T-Pain, Kreesha Turner, and K-OS. And when he’s not on TV hosting a hit show New Music Live on Much Music he’s busy directing music videos, films, judging and producing Hip Hop events.

Lenny Len is an undeniable force in Hip Hop across Canada, his dance workshop will focus on tuning your ears to the music guiding you through an intensive brain workout with flavorshop style.

Turn Up The Get Down Show

We are excited and proud that our very own Tara Wilson has been asked to be a guest choreographer for the upcoming Decidedly Jazz Danceworks (DJD) show “Turn Up The Get Down”. The DJD professional dance company will also be performing original choreographic work from Vancouver’s 605 Collective and DJD’s resident choreographer Kim Cooper. Make sure to check out her Funk piece and support live art!

Performacnes run daily between April 5-14, 2013 with a Gala Performance on April 10, 2013 at the Theatre Junction GRAND.

Summer camp at PULSE will be week to remember!
Campers will learn Breaking, Popping, Locking, Hip Hop party dance, Hip Hop choreography, Vogueing, Whaacking and House! They will also learn about the history of these dances: how they came about, who are the people that created these dances and how these dances have changed over time. We will learn about other elements of Hip Hop culture Dj’ing, Graffiti Art and MC’ing. With an emphasis on skill building and having fun, PULSE summer dance camps provide an opportunity for your child to really learn what Hip hop is all about!
The week will end with an in studio sharing celebration where friends and family are invited to watch and share with the campers the fruits of their hard work throughout the week! Don’t miss out on this exciting and fun week of dance!

First ever FREESTYLE OLYMPICS hosted by Jazzlib Collective and Contraverse

Multi-skill emcee competition to test all aspects of Freestyle.

Jazzlib Collective and ContraVerse hope to bring YYC emcee’s together, to test each other’s skills in all aspects of emceeing. The night will include special performances from various local artists within the yyc Hip Hop community, as well as a 7 to Smoke emcee battle and games that will test emcee’s freestyle and creativity.
The Collective vision: to bring together contrasting genres of the emcee community in Calgary and celebrate our diversity. Unique events will test different aspects of the emcee skill set, from battle format, to comedy and individual creativity, to crew battles. DJs, B-Boys/Girls and visual art will also be represented in the night’s entertainment.
The night will be hosted by Teekay (Dragon Fli Empire) and Jaynova with judges Ricca Razorsharp (Blades of Steel), RS Poe (10 @ 10) and Pleasant (Freed Artist Society).

2 ON 2 YOUTH BREAKING BATTLE

Calgary is bubbling with lots of exciting events and there’s definitely no shortage of Breaking events. Old to New is a unique event hosted by Ontologic (members of Floorwookies) that has been focused on engaging up and coming bboys and bgirls with it’s under 18 format. This year, our friends from Leaping Feats Creative Danceworks, Yukon will be bringing some of their youth dancers to battle it out against YYC talents. Another reason why it’s so important that these events happen within our community. Inspiring and building with other communities allows us to learn from each other, sharing our experiences and cultures. As a proud sponsor and supporter of OLD TO NEW, we’ll be rolling in deep with some of our breakers including members of the Beast Machine! Expect some really great music from DJ Creeasian (Original Rudes, YEG). Judges are from our very own Pulse family Bboy Rein, Mezu, and Gomo!

8 schools across Canada will CRUSH EXAM STRESS AND JUST DANCE simultaneously to Flo Rida’s ‘Good Feeling’ as part of a nationwide attempt to set a WORLD RECORD!
Ubsisoft is one of the largest gaming companies in the world with it’s largest studio located in Montreal, Canada. This year Ubisoft is teaming up with varsity campuses across Canada to crush exam stress and promote dance through a fun event. Each campus will host a “Just Dance” event which will consist of learning the dance moves to one of the choreographed songs in Just Dance 4. An attempt to set the world record will happen 3pm in different time zones across Canada!

The Hip Hop and Funk Styles club has been chosen to represent the University of Calgary! The day will consist of special performances from Pulse Studios adult performance company Flomatk, as well as other groups and participants can learn the choreography to the ‘Good Feeling’ ahead of time by viewing the Just Dance Youtube video.

We will perform this routine once a 3:00pm and once again after that to set the world record!

There will be PRIZES AND GIVEAWAYS!!!!!!!
